PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet printer or the like which can carry out a function recovery process by a suitable timing and can also prevent wasteful ink consumption due to an interruption of the function recovery process, by controlling execution of the function recovery process including a cleaning process and a maintenance process at the host device side.

SOLUTION: A printer 2 which operates on the basis of control data from a POS terminal 1 is equipped with a function recovery process execution part 23 for executing the function recovery process for recovering the function of a printing head by a predetermined timing, and a permission command acquisition part 211 for acquiring a permission command which permits execution of the function recovery process from the POS terminal 1. The function recovery process execution part 23 executes the function recovery process on condition that the permission command is received.
