To reduce an excessively high condensate formation during the start-up of a boiler, the circulation pump should be switched off until a desired value is reached and then initially operated at a variable delivery rate. The variation of the delivery rate can be achieved by varying the rotational speed. This rotational-speed control is effected by means of a PI controller as a function of the undershooting of the desired value, a small difference resulting in a higher rotational speed than a large difference.
