PURPOSE:To restore a system quickly when error occurs during the operation of a secondary storage device, by recording classifications and positions of errors which occur when data of a recording medium is read and checking this hysteresis. CONSTITUTION:When receiving a read instruction from a CPU1, a flopply disc controller 2 controls a foppy disc drive 3 to read out data on a floppy disc. If an error occurs, the CPU1 stores the position (a track number and a sector number) of this error occurrence on the recording medium and an error code in a RAM4. This position and the code error are compared with those of errors which occur in the past; and if the same kind of error occurs N-number of times continuously in the same position, it is judged that the recording medium is damaged physically or magnetically. The sector or the track where this error occurs is not used hereafter to stabilize the operation of an apparatus. |
