PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel pump of an outboard motor with reduced size and simple construction. SOLUTION: In an outboard motor 1 provided with a cam shaft 21 in parallel with a crank shaft disposed substantially perpendicular within an engine 3, a fuel pump 31 is provided in the vicinity of the upper end of the cam shaft 21. The fuel pump 31 is provided with a retractable plunger 32 that is disposed such that the retracting line L1 of the plunger 32 becomes in parallel with the axial line L2 of the cam shaft 21. Meanwhile an inclined plate cam 33 is disposed on the upper end of the cam shaft 21 so as to retract the plunger 32 along the retracting line L1.
