Lid locking mechanism - esp. for high pressure extn. equipment used e.g. to treat coffee, tea or hops

A locking mechanism, for fixing a lid (4) in its closed position in an opening of a pressure vessel or pressure pipe (1), has one or more jaws (7) which are displaceable relative to the axis of the opening and which, in the closed position, cooperate with a recess at the edge of the opening. The jaws (7) are displaceable relative to one another in the radial direction and have grooves (8) and projections (9) for cooperating with a corresp. number of projections (11) and grooves (10) at the edge of the opening. USE/ADVANTAGE - The locking mechanism is esp. useful for high pressure extn. equipment employing supercritical gases, e.g. for treatment of coffee, tea or hops. The locking mechanism is simple to operate, is compact, provides secure locking and has high cyclic load resistance.
