METHOD FOR PREPARING POLYMER SPHERE

A method for preparing a polymer sphere, which comprises admixing a liquid monomer and a supporting liquid which has a magnetic susceptibility X2 being greater than a magnetic susceptibility X1 of any one of the liquid monomer, the resultant polymer and the like and does not substantially dissolve the monomer, applying a gradient magnetic field to the supporting liquid, to thereby float a droplet of the monomer at a specific position in the supporting liquid, and solidifying by polymerizing the monomer while maintaining the state wherein the droplet takes a substantial spherical shape due to its interface tension. The method allows the preparation of a polymer sphere which is free from the problem of residual strain and has an increased diameter, and thus can be used for preparing a polymer sphere for optical use and the like.
