An isobutylene based polymer contains at least one nitroxide, hydrazyl, aryloxy or trityl radical that is stable at room temperature and in the presence of oxygen. An isobutylene based polymer (I) contains at least one free radical in the main chain, at the end and/or in the side chain consisting of a nitroxide, hydrazyl, aryloxy or trityl radical that is stable at room temperature and in the presence of oxygen. An Independent claims are included for a rubber composition (II) comprising 100 pts.wt. of a diene rubber and 0.1-100 pts.wt. of (I).
