1,255,311. Variable-ratio gearing. RHEINSTAHL HUTTENWERKE A.G. 8 Jan., 1970 [9 Jan., 1969], No. 983/70. Heading F2D. A multi-countershaft change-speed gear has a freely-floating non-rotatable countershaft carrier 9 ensuring equal flow of power through each countershaft. The C.S.G. comprises a driving wheel 4 on an input shaft 1 coaxially arranged with respect to a plurality of freely rotatable driven wheels 5, 6, 7 on an output shaft 2, the floating non-rotatable carrier 9, having a triangular cross-sectional shape, being arranged about the shafts 1, 2 and carrying, equiangularly spaced about the shafts 1, 2, at least three identical sets of countershaft wheels 10-13 of which in each set, the wheel 10 engages the driving wheel 4 and the remaining wheels 11, 12, 13 respectively engage the driven wheels 5, 6, 7 which may be selectively connected to the output shaft 2 via selector forks 18, 19, the former selector fork 18 additionally serving to connect the output shaft 2 to the driving wheel 4 for direct drive. A double-jointed dog coupling 8 connects the carrier 9 to a triangular cross-sectional shaped gear-case 3. |
