PURPOSE:To perform the assembling accuracy of a rotation detector, by providing the constitution of a sensor element pattern and a drum mounting and detaching pattern so as to obtain a signal showing that the relative position of a drum and a sensor is a proper value only at the time of the proper value. CONSTITUTION:The pitch of stripes 11-14 constituting MR sensors 11-16 is set to 1/2 pitch P of the mounting and detaching patterns 21-23 of a drum. Center stripes 15, 16 and drum mounting and detaching patterns 24, 25 are provided in order to incorporate an initial axial direction position. That is, only when the relative position relating to a rotary axis direction of the drum and a drum MR sensor is a proper value, the signal showing that effect is obtained in the terminals S1, S2 led out from the stripes 15, 16. Therefore, by using this signal, the sensor and the drum can be assembled while the opposed position of both of them is held.
