The transmission system uses a bus line (1) for transmitting data and a supply voltage between a number of distributed devices (A,..D), with the bus line monitored, to allow switching of the data and/or energy transmission to a back-up bus line (2) when a fault is detected. The first bus line may have a higher data rate than the second bus line, with the bus line monitoring effected via a monitoring device (3) incorporated in a central device, in a number of the distributed devices, or in all the distributed devices.
