PURPOSE:To obtain an electrode having high mechanical strength and durability, by embedding a reinforcing material in a synthetic resin layer containing a conductive packing material over the almost entire surface region of the electrode and integrally molding the whole to constitute the electrode. CONSTITUTION:A carbonaceous conductive packing material and a synthetic resin are kneaded to form each of two conductive resin layer members 14, 15 each having an electrode size. In the next step, the conductive resin members 14, 15 are superposed to both sides of a reinforcing member 18 in a sandwich form and the whole is integrally molded in a mold under pressure to obtain an electrode plate 19. As the conductive packing material, a carbon fiber or graphite is used and, as the synthetic resin, a phenolic resin or a polyester resin is used. Furthermore, when glass beads are mixed when the conductive resin layer members 14, 15 are formed, the mechanical abrasion resistance of the electrode is enhanced.
