The present invention relates to a tension and anti-recoil mechanism for a cable tie tool. In one aspect there is provided a tension and anti-recoil mechanism connected to a tool handle of a cable tie tool, the tool handle having a barrel and a grip depending therefrom. A regulator grip is supported in the barrel portion and longitudinally fixed relative thereto. A cutter actuator is supported in the regulator grip in coaxial relation therewith for longitudinal displacement therein. A cutter actuator spring is connected to the cutter actuator and regulator grip to resist longitudinal displacement of the cutter actuator in the rearward direction relative to the regulator grip.
