The automotive differential with variable locking action transmits the drive from a drive shaft to a pair of half-shafts. It comprises a rotary housing (13) inside and outer one (12), and a sun wheel (39) coupled to one half-shaft (22), while an annular gear (30) in the rotary housing is coupled to the other half-shaft (23). A clutch (45-48) between the sun wheel and housing resists relative rotation between them, when hydraulically operated. The hydraulic fluid is suppiled to it under pressure from an external source via an annular distributor body (53) in the outer housing. ADVANTAGE - Limited slip and controllable hydraulic force.
