A file scope which is a set of nodes referred to by the file of an edit object is switched. A scene graph editing tool (424) edits the hierarchical structure of the object and invisible nodes (script nodes). The user displays a hierarchical tree structure of the nodes, which refer to the VRML contents of the edit object with a conductor window of a menu screen, in the scene graph window. The scene graph editing tool (424) limits the nodes which are the edit objects for the routing and for generating a script and, further, to the file scope displayed in the scene graph window and changes them to the nodes which are referred to by the VRML file after the change in accordance with the change of the VRML of the edit object by the user. At that time, mutual matching between the script nodes is maintained.
