PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device which will not cause useless speed change in an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: A current position and a forward curve are detected (S10). Even if the upper speed change step is selected as the optimum speed change step, shift-up operation is limited before a curve is passed (S20). In passing the forward curve, the recommended speed for smoothly passing the curve is detected according to the curvature of the curve, and when an engine brake is actuated at a speed change step lower than the current time, the speed reduction capable speed for reducing the speed to the recommended speed at the curve is calculated according to the distance to the curve. When it is judged that the current speed exceeds the speed reduction capable speed and the turn off of the accelerator pedal is detected, the speed change step is shifted down and speed reduction is conducted by the engine brake (S40). |
