PURPOSE:To prevent electrolyte in an electrolyte plate from creeping to outside a unitary cell by preparing a reducive atmosphere consisting of a specific inert gas for the body of a battery, and thereupon operating fuel battery. CONSTITUTION:The atmosphere for the body 1 of a battery is made reducive with the hydrogen concentration ranging from 10 to 13000ppm. Accordingly a separator 3 will not be oxidated even after long period operation of fuel battery under high temp. condition. Thereby the carbonate electrolyte melted in the electrolyte 2 will not creep to outside the unitary cell 5 through conduction over the surface of separator 3, so that decrease of the amount of carbonates in the electrolyte plate 2 is suppressed to lead to preventing drop of the fuel battery characteristics. |
