This invention relates to a process for preparing an aqueous composition which comprises the mixture of an insoluble ammonium polyphosphate, a surfactant and a hot- curing resin and, optionally, an insoluble ammonium polyphosphate and a carbamic acid derivative, forming a cuttable paste which when applied to the back of a fabric and hot cured retards the ignition of a fabric without exuding on the front face and without causing resin and/or salt marks.
