Continuous cast metal sections esp. of steel are cooled through a vertical cylindrical suitable, sealed cooling chamber with tangential water inlets and outlets in which the water is circulating in a circular spiral path round the workpiece excercising a highly effective cooling action. Opt., brushes can be built into the chambers for scrubbing the metal surface of the section being passed through the cooler.
