An actuating device for performing a quarter turn, in particular for the remote actuation of valves, comprises a housing, in which cylinders arranged next to one another are formed, a piston in each cylinder, which on one side is provided with a recess in which a toothed rack is arranged, a pinion meshing with the toothed racks on the pistons and mounted in the housing, and also means for feeding compressed air to the cylinders, and an air-distribution system which connects each end of the other cylinder. The housing is preferably formed by a plastic moulding, and the cylinders are lined. The pistons can likewise be formed by plastic mouldings.
