Form-fill-seal packaging apparatus and control method

A form4ill-seal packaging machine comprises a reciprocal frame 74 carrying a pair of sealing bars (65, 66 Fig 2) which produce transverse seals between the products (46 Fig 1A) being packaged and a mechanism to control the length and speed of the stroke of the frame 74 and the speed of the film (60 Fig 6) dependent on the length of the product (46 Fig 1A). This assures more uniform heating of the seals resulting overall in more uniform transverse seals. The variation in speed and stroke of frame 74 is achieved by moving slider 90 along main lever 85 through first motor 122, this in turn varies the arc through which driven lever 92 can swing and hence the arc through which swinging levers 88 can swing. Hence the stroke and speed of frame 74 are varied through connecting rods 89 being connected to swinging levers 68. The speed of the film is controlled by second motor (57 Fig 6).
