PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matter discrimination method, capable of discriminating foreign matters, even in a case that the concentration value of an object is similar to that of the foreign matters. SOLUTION: This matter discrimination method includes a process for extracting matter A, on the basis of the concentration value of the matter at each pixel of an X-ray image obtained by photographing a predetermined region of a moving device 2 for moving the matter; a process for counting the number of pixels at each concentration value obtained in the extraction process and dividing the count value at each concentration value by the total number of the pixels of the matter to express the count value, as an area ratio to calculate matter concentration distribution data; a process for inputting the matter concentration distribution data and the reference concentration distribution data of a reference object, obtained by the same process to calculate the correlation coefficient of both distribution data; and a process for inputting the correlation coefficient calculated in the previous process and comparing the same with a preset threshold to decide whether the matter is the object.
