This database system according to an embodiment is equipped with a plurality of nodes for storing databases and a management device for managing the plurality of nodes. The management device is provided with a first allocation unit and a second allocation unit. The first allocation unit, in response to changes in the conditions of each of the plurality of nodes, allocates a first node that stores data sets and receives access requests for the data sets and a second node that stores data sets and serves as a backup for the first node, and instructs operations according to the allocations to each of the plurality of nodes. The second allocation unit, in response to changes in the conditions of the plurality of nodes and the allocation conditions of the first node and the second node, allocates a third node serving as a candidate for the first node or the second node, and instructs each of the plurality of nodes to prepare for making the third node operate as the first node or the second node. |
