An arrangement (A) for fast closure of an injection moulding tool with cantilevered pillars is claimed. The two halves are mounted on bolster plates one of which is fixed, the other moving on a sliding shoe on a base frame. Fast operation of the moving half is achieved through a linkage system which is operated by a piston pivoted at a fixed point below the moving plate. The piston rod is connected to a triangular link which by means of a crank is fixed to the base frame. The other end of the link is located on a fixed pivot on a frame at the rear of the moving plate. Short piston movement results in a longer, but faster movement of the moving plate. ADVANTAGE - Use of (A) eliminates the transfer of reaction forces onto the fixed tool plate. (A) requires no additional length for the closure unit.
