PURPOSE:To provide low heat conductive ceramics, having a low heat conductivity and excellent in mechanical characteristics such as strength and toughness and a method for producing the ceramics. CONSTITUTION:The objective ceramics are composed of composite ceramics comprising ceramic whisker or ceramic fiber 4, containing Si and enclosed in a ceramic parent phase 3, constructed from Si, N, O and at least one or more of the element group of Ti, Zr, Hf, Y, B, Al and La and containing >=15% pores 5. The ceramic whisker or ceramic fiber 4 is preferentially oriented at right angles from the direction of heat flow. |
