摘要
1395291 Culturing tissue-cells CELLCO Inc 8 May 1973 [18 May 1972] 21967/73 Heading C6F Tissue-cells are grown in vitro on a plurality of capillaries having walls which are permeable to nutrients for the cells, while a nutrient medium is passed through the capillaries, and the capillaries are arranged so as to simulate a vascular network whereby cell growth on one capillary is influenced by the nutrients diffusing through the wall of another capillary. The walls of at least some of the capillaries may be sufficiently permeable to large molecules (M.W. 50,000) for products of the cells e.g. hormones, to pass through the wall into the nutrient medium, from which they may subsequently be recovered. Capillaries based on cellulose acetate and silicone polycarbonate of say, 200 microns internal diameter but different permeabilities may be employed cojointly. Collagen coated capillaries may be used. The capillaries may be arranged parallel to each other within a cell culture unit bounded by a glass shell and surrounded within the shell by a stationary body of nutrient medium. Several units may be arranged in parallel or series. The nutrient medium is oxygenated and is pH-controlled with CO 2 . Examples are directed to the growth of mouse L-cells and human chorio-carcinoma cells.
