PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high density optical recording medium capable of attaining perfect interchangeability with a phase change recording medium in relation to an optical pickup or driver using short-wavelength light so as to increase recording density. SOLUTION: The optical recording medium ensures direct readout as a reflectance change without using a phase modulation system and has a recording film with a monolayer or multilayer structure on a substrate 1. The recording film comprises a layer 2 of an organic material which is degraded mainly by the absorption of laser light and causes a refractive index change and the reflectance of the optical recording medium to laser light of 380-450 nm wavelength for reproduction is 15-25% before the degradation and 0-10% after the degradation. |
