PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device for a high pressure discharge lamp, which can stably light a discharge lamp under illumination control. SOLUTION: For the lighting device for a high pressure discharging lamp, which is equipped with a DC power source 2, a power conversion part 4 for power-converting output voltage V1 from the DC power source 2, a polarity inversion part 6 for converting output voltage V2 from the power conversion part 4 to low-frequency rectangular wave voltage, a high pressure discharge lamp La driven by output voltage from the polarity inversion part 6 and a starter 8 for applying high voltage pulse for starting to the high pressure discharge lamp La, and rectangular wave-lights the high pressure discharge lamp La, the operation of the polarity inversion part 6 is stopped at least at the time power changes upon transfer from full lighting to lighting under illumination control. |
