OPTICAL CONNECTOR AND METHOD OF MACHINING END FACE OF OPTICAL FIBER USED IN OPTICAL CONNECTOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate polishing of the end face of an optical fiber in a type of optical connector in which optical fibers are directly connected to each other. SOLUTION: In the optical connector in which the end face 12 of an optical fiber 11 is brought into contact with that of the opposite optical fiber in a prescribed direction 13, the housing 14 is equipped with an aligning part 16 having holes 15 for inserting optical fibers and with a holding part 21 for holding the optical fibers. The holding part 21 is movable in the prescribed direction and fixed on the housing with the optical fibers inserted into the holes of the aligning part, controlling the protruding quantity of the optical fibers from the end face 22 of the aligning part. The housing is also equipped with a guide part 17 for guiding optical fibers into the holes of the aligning part.
