PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of recording optical information and an optical information recording medium which enables a high density recording to be performed by using near field light. SOLUTION: A near field light generation layer 1 is irradiated with a laser beam 4 to excite the near field light generation layer 1 into an excited state 5 and the near field light is increased by the function of the exciton including surface plasmon resonance of the excited near field light generation layer 1. The near field light is converted into propagation light 7 through a dielectric material layer 2 and optical characteristics of a recording layer 3 is changed and a pit 8 is formed in the recording layer 3 by means of the propagation light 7 converted through the dielectric material layer 2 to perform recording of information.
