PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tracking controller capable of automatically photographing an area more suitable for the supervision of an intruder or the like even if delays in processing and control take place. SOLUTION: The object area tracking unit 102 of an automatic tracking apparatus 100 processes the information of an image received from an image input section 101 to particularize the position of a tracking object, and a camera control section 103 controls a camera 106 so that the tracking object is not deviated from the field angle of the camera 106 for photographing the object and further the tracking object is displayed on a position suitable for the supervision on the photographing screen. In this case, the camera control section 103 uses the time series information of the position detected from the image to detect the moving direction of the tracking object and the noted direction of a person and automatically controls the photographing direction so as to more widen an area in front of the moving direction and in front of the noted direction. The camera control section 103 automatically adjusts zoom magnification toward a wide angle side when the object is likely to deviate from the photographing range and controls the zoom magnification toward a telephoto side when the display position of the object is stable.
