The invention relates to a fastening device for fastening a leading edge of a printing plate at a printing machine comprising a clamping device featuring two plane clamping surfaces extending essentially rectangular with respect to the cylinder radius. Such a leading-edge fastening device is designed such that the leading edge of the printing plate may be fastened without major deformation. This is achieved in that in the area (15) of the opening (14) in which the printing plate (4) is inserted the radius (2) of the outer cylindrical surface (5) of the plate cylinder is smaller than the cylinder radius (1), and in that said radius (2) is dimensioned at least such that no permanent deformation may occur as a result of tensioning a commercial printing plate (4).
