PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively make good use of heat energy by equipping heat transfer partitions for partitioning an enclosed vessel into a plurality of distillation compartments vertically, a heating device for supplying heat energy to the lowermost compartment and a pressurizing or pressure-reducing device for keeping the internal pressures of the compartments lower sequentially as it goes from the lower stage to the upper stage. SOLUTION: A steam jacket 12 is provided at the bottom of the enclosed vessel 11 to supply steam from a heat source 13. The inside of the vessel 11 is partitioned into four distillation compartments 15a-15d by three pieces of heat transfer partitions 14a-14c. Each of the partitions 14a-14c is bent zigzag to enlarge the heat transfer area. Receiving trays 16 are installed just under respective partitions 14a-14c for receiving the liquids condensed on respective undersurfaces of the partitions. The internal pressures of the compartments 15a-15d are sequentially kept lower as it goes from the lower stage to the upper stage. As a result, the same temperature difference between both sides of each partition can be kept and the heat-transferred quantity of the evaporation heat from the lower stage to the upper stage can be kept constant.
