PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple pocket-shaped presser plate and a sewing machine for sewing a pocket with the presser plate capable of sewing pockets of various types for small quantity production other than those for mass-production only by changing the presser plate without requiring a folding device or changing a pattern plate or adjusting the folding, capable of improving the work efficiency and operability and reducing the facility investment cost. SOLUTION: This sewing machine has a body side presser plate 24 with a pocket-shaped opening 28 opened in the shape of a pocket for pressing the body cloth and a pocket side presser plate 25 supported at one edge of the body side presser plate 24 in such a way that it can be opened/closed. The pocket side presser plate 25 presses the pocket cloth 3 disposed on the pocket- shaped opening 28, and has a margin-shaped opening opened in the shape of the margin opposite to the pocket-shaped opening 28.
