A substrate for information recording media and magnetic recording media using the same are provided to form a magnetic recording media of high quality by forming the SiO2 film of under 10nm thickness. A substrate for information recording media comprises: a main plane which is disc shape having a center hole; an inner peripheral section of substrate(4) which is adjacent to the center hole; an inner peripheral chamfer portion of substrate(6) which is adjacent to the principal planes and substrate inner circumferential section; an outer peripheral section of substrate(5) which is positioned at the opposite side of the circumference section; a outer chamfer(7) of substrate which is adjacent to principal planes and substrate circumference cross section; and a silicon crystalline supporting body.
