Use of an alkali metal perborate or percarbonate salt as a buffering additive in the manufacture of an alkaline peroxide-containing liquid detergent composition, characterised in that the level of the persalt added, based on peroxide equivalent content, is less than 90 %, preferably less than 75 %, most preferably less than half of the total peroxide equivalent in the composition.
