<p>A unit subjects a solid packing to an outward radial flow of gas. It is especially suitable for promoting the internal flow in a hollow, cylindrical catalyst bed. It includes a central vertical gas supply tube, directing flow to the surface of the packing, the latter being retained by e.g. a cage- or sieve-like structure. In this original design, the vertical gas supply tube (7) has vertical rows of holes (10) for the outgoing flow of gas. It is spaced away from the packing (3) surface (5) approached by the flow. Thus is formed, an intervening cylindrical annulus. In addition, a deflection baffle (11a) turns the exit flow of gas tangentially into the annulus.</p> |
