PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent or decrease the production of defects in a reflection layer when Ag or a Ag-contg. metal is used for the metal reflection layer and to improve light resistance and reliability by forming the metal reflection layer by a sputtering film-forming method and controlling the min. film thickness of the region where recording and reproducing is possible to a specified value or larger. SOLUTION: The min, film thickness of the region where recording and reproducing is possible is controlled to >=100 nm and <=200 nm. The optical recording medium is produced by forming a recording layer 2 comprising org. dyes on a resin or glass transparent substrate 1. then forming a metal reflection layer 3 thereon, and further forming one or more protective layers 4 comprising a resin or a material essentially comprising a resin thereon. The transparent substrate 1 has preferably >=85% transmittance for the recording light and reproducing light, and is substantially prepared from a transparent resin or glass. The recording layer contains, for example, org. dyes such as phthalocyanine dyes, cyanine dyes and azo dyes. |
