PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating resin composition capable of forming coating film excellent in curability, hardness, impact resistance, acid resistance, scratch resistance, etc., and improved in yellowing resistance. SOLUTION: This coating resin composition is such as to contain hydroxy groups, carboxyalkyl ester groups and epoxy groups and be designed to make a reaction between the hydroxy groups and the carboxyalkyl ester groups by the epoxy groups and a transesterification crosslinking catalyst in this composition; wherein the content of the hydrogen atoms bound to theα-position of the carbonyl carbon atoms of the carboxyalkyl ester groups is <=5 mol/kg.
