PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a barrier layer for protection suitable for a thermally developable material. SOLUTION: A thermally developable material having the following (a) and (b) on a support is provided; (a) one or more thermally developable imaging layers comprising a binder and a non-photosensitive reducible silver ion source and a reducing composition for the non-photosensitive reducible silver ion source combined in such a way that they react and (b) a barrier layer disposed farther from the support than the imaging layers on the imaging layer side of the support and comprising a film-forming acrylic or methacrylic acid ester or amide polymer(s) that has at least 8,000 g/mole molecular weight and comprises recurring units derived from one or more polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated acrylic or methacrylic acid ester or amide monomers, wherein 15-100 mole % of the recurring units of the polymer are derived from monomers having hydroxy functionality.
