<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an enjoyable natural conversation accurately corresponding to a user's speech and covering a wide range of topics. <P>SOLUTION: A system constructor inputs published works and works on a network as a base of an interaction program into a recording medium of a computer. A system installs a semantic network based on the works as the configuration of a structure on a memory of the computer. The system obtains a part which stores, in highest density, sentences matching the user's remark, within the semantic network by pattern recognition computation. The system regards the crowded part of the matching sentences as a focus of the topic of the system and user, and selects the sentence from that part and returns it as a reply sentence to the user.
