摘要 The present invention relates to a hybrid reactive power compensation apparatus and a control method thereof. According to the present invention, a hybrid reactive power compensation apparatus comprises: one or a plurality of thyristor switched capacitor (TSC) units connecting a capacitor to a system dependent on opening/closing of a thyristor switch to supply discontinuous reactive power; a modular multilevel converter (MMC) unit including multiple submodules connected in series by phase, and connecting a capacitor in each submodule to the system according to a switch control in the submodule to supply power; and an integrated control unit controlling the thyristor switch of the TSC unit and a switch in the submodule of the MMC unit to generate reactive power to offset the reactive power of the system. According to the present invention, combining the TSC and the MMC, a correct amount needed to compensate for the reactive power of the system is provided while preventing the generation of a harmonic wave of a specific order, so a loss generated in the system due to the reactive power is minimized. Moreover, since the reactive power is more precisely offset by using a previously installed TSC, a maximum effect is acquired at small cost.
