PURPOSE: To provide a phase transition type optical recording medium capable of stable recording and reproduction in a drive capable of bringing CD into reproduction and capable of also bringing a rewritable optical recording medium into recording and reproduction. CONSTITUTION: A guide groove of 0.3-0.7μm width and 15-35nm depth is formed in a substrate and a dielectric protective layer, a phase transition type optical recording layer, a dielectric protective layer and a reflecting layer are successively laminated on the substrate. The reflectance of the specular part of the resultant medium at the wavelength of laser light used is 15-40%.
