A channel conversion device for a TV and a method therefor are provided to convert a channel of the TV into a channel which a user wishes by entering in a channel variable mode when the user simultaneously operates a channel-up key and a channel-down key and variably operating the channel-up key or the channel-down key. A key input unit(201), having a channel-up key and a channel-down key, outputs a certain channel up/down signal. A channel converting unit(202) receives an output signal of the key input unit(201), and converts a channel. An OSD(On Screen Display) generating unit(203) displays a channel number on a screen. A control unit(204) outputs a control signal for controlling the channel converting unit(202) and the OSD generating unit(203). If the channel-up key and the channel-down key are simultaneously pressed, the control unit(204) controls the OSD generating unit(203) to display a current channel number. If the channel-up key or the channel-down key is afterward pressed, the control unit(204) varies a figure of ten or one of the current channel number, and converts the channel.
