The invention relates to an injection device for administering a fluid. A dosing unit (60, 260, 270) is used to set a dose to be administered. A dose limitation unit (220) prevents the setting of a last dose that exceeds the amount of remaining product available, i.e. the administration of this dose would displace the delivery element beyond the distal end position. When the product container is replaced, the dose limitation unit is automatically reset. To achieve this, the device comprises a spring element (190), which moves the delivery element into the distal end position when the container is replaced. The dose limitation element is coupled to the delivery element in such a way that it attains the dose limitation position in conjunction with this movement. When a new product container is subsequently inserted, the dose limitation element moves into a position that corresponds exactly to the amount of product available.
