The stator has a stator body with a stator yoke and grooves arranged parallel to a longitudinal axis of the body, where the grooves are separated from each other by a tooth (16) with a tooth width and extend from a groove base (20) up to a tooth head (18). The ratio of tooth width at the head to yoke height lies between 0.3 and 0.8 and/or the ratio of tooth width at the head to groove width lies between 0.3 and 3. The ratio of mass of wires (24) in the groove to the total mass of the wires lies between 0.43 and 0.55, where the groove slot width is equal to the groove width. An independent claim is also included for a method of manufacturing a stator for an electrical machine.
