PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress decomposition of ammonia contained in measurement target gas, due to a protective cover.SOLUTION: A gas sensor comprises: a sensor element 110 that includes a gas introduction port 111 through which measurement target gas is introduced into the sensor element, and that can detect predetermined gas concentration of the measurement target gas which has flowed into an inside of the sensor element through the gas introduction port 111; and a protective cover 120 that contains a substance having a capability of decomposing ammonia, and that defines a sensor element chamber 124 in which a front end of the sensor element 110 and the gas introduction port 111 are disposed, and defines an inlet-side gas flow path 150 extending from outside including an element chamber inlet 127 to the sensor element chamber 124, the element chamber inlet 127 being an inlet to the sensor element chamber 124. The protective cover 120 has a gas-contact surface area S within the range of 450 mmto 1145 mm, the gas-contact surface area S being a sum of a surface area S1 of a portion facing the inlet-side gas flow path 150 and a surface area S2 of a portion facing an in-element-chamber flow path 152 in the sensor element chamber 124 that is a shortest flow path for the measurement target gas from the element-chamber inlet 127 to the introduction port 111.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7 |
