The present invention relates to (2S,3S)-2,3-dihydro-3-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-7-(2-propen-1-yl)-5-[4-(2-propen-1-yl)phenoxy]-1,4-benzodioxin-2-methanol, (1R)-5-(1,3-dimethoxypropyl)-3-[4-(2-propen-1-yl)phenoxy]-1,2-benzenediol, and an anti-inflammatory or neuroprotective pharmaceutical composition and health-aid food comprising the compounds. According to the present invention, the two compounds derived from Japanese cucumber trees can inhibit production of nitrogen oxide playing an important role in a process of inflammatory response and protect neuronal cell death caused by glutamate as a neurotoxin, and thus can be used as an active ingredient of an anti-inflammatory or neuroprotective composition and health-aid food.
