Residual pressure valve for gas tanks under internal pressure, with a bead-like valve seat (27), through the circular opening (28) of which a valve closure piece (37) can slide axially, which valve closure piece (37) has a sealing ring (53), the outside diameter (D) of which is greater than the circular opening (28) and which can bear on two valve seat surfaces (30 and 31) which are located on sides of the valve seat (27) axially remote from one another. The valve closure piece (37) is under the action of a telescopic spring (46) which pulls the valve closure piece (37) onto a valve seat surface (30) if the internal pressure in the tank (10) falls below a predetermined value, so that no air can penetrate into the tank when it is empty. The residual pressure valve can be fitted in the connection piece (14) of the gas tank (10) and automatically opens during filling of the tank. It can also be opened by a pin or bolt from the outside if residual gas quantities in the tank (10) are to be drawn off. <IMAGE>
