PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve operability in a sewing machine provided with a knee raising lever. SOLUTION: The sewing machine 1 comprises: a needle driving mechanism provided with a drive source for vertically driving a sewing machine needle not shown in the figure; an upper shaft sensor not shown in the figure as a needle position detection means for detecting the position in a vertical direction of the sewing machine needle vertically driven by the needle driving mechanism; a presser foot mechanism 4 for supporting a presser foot 41 for pressing an object to be sewn on a needle plate from the above switchably to an open state or a pressing state; a knee raising mechanism 6 capable of holding the presser foot 41 in the open state by acting on the presser foot mechanism 4; and a knee raising operation detection means for detecting that the knee raising lever is operated. A control means 7 executes the control of stopping the end of the needle in a range above the needle plate to the drive source of the needle driving mechanism by the detection of the knee raising operation detection means.
