A method and a system for remotely accessing a UPnP(Universal Plug And Play) device are provided to realize multicast transfer by transferring a message in a UPnP layer, and to improve a search and access control for the UPnP device/service considering a remote access timeout. A multicast bridge(116) configures an interface between the network and UPnP control points(105,114) through communication link. An HTTP(HyperText Transfer Protocol) proxy(118) receives an SSDP(Simple Service Delivery Protocol) M(Multicast)-Search message from the access point through the bridge, sends a response to the access point by responding to the SSDP M-search message, and transfers a UPnP SSDP active AD(ADvertisement) message to the access point through the bridge. The UPnP device transfers the UPnP SSDP active AD message. The proxy obtains and stores the UPnP SSDP active AD message, transfers the M-search message to the UPnP devices(102,110), receives the response from the UPnP device, transfers an M-search message response to the control point, and transfers the stored UPnP SSDP active AD message to the control point.
